Saturday, February 17 10:30 - Noon
Our monthly Social Justice Reading Group is aimed at youth ages 4 to 11 (preschool to fifth grade). The reading group is designed to engage youth in critical exploration of social justice topics through children's literature. ELPL librarians and community volunteers a will read a couple of children's books on that month's social justice topic (e.g., race/ethnicity, gender, social class, Indigenous rights, LGBTQ, protest). After the book readings, we discuss the month's social justice topic in small groups and enjoy a themed craft activity.
The Social Justice Reading Group meets on the third Saturday of every month from 10:30 to Noon at the East Lansing Public Library.
In February, we'll talk about Refugees and Welcoming Communities in conjunction with Refuge Lansing. ELPL will host the Refuge Lansing exhibit from February 1 through 22.
