While Michigan State University has many claims to fame, like Tom Izzo’s basketball legacy or its status as the very first land-grant institution in the United States, one of the most unique is the Comics Collection that is part of the Murray & Hong Special Collections inside the MSU Libraries.
This collection contains approximately 350,000 comics, making it the largest publicly accessible comics collection in the entire world. It contains materials from all around the globe and spans the earliest years of the medium through modern day publications.
Spend an hour with MSU Comics Studies Librarian Jason Larsen as he discusses the history of the collection, the unique place of comics within literature, the many ways in which the collection is used, and how the public can access this resource. He will also highlight some of the unique materials in the collection and answer questions from the audience.
This event is free open to the public. Recommended for Teen and Adult audiences.
