The scene where Gwyneth Paltrow steps off the Green Line bus and "These Days" by Nico plays. Forever memorable. If you enjoy dysfunctional families, absurd situations, and dark comedy, this film is for you.

The movie get better and better as you keep watching it. Good acting and funny by moments. Family story with their problems and trying to reconcile the hurt from each others. Great sensitivity and different emotions. worth it to persevere to watch it until the end.

Directed and co-written by Wes Anderson, this kaleidoscopic montage of quirky visuals and stilted dialogue moves at such a breakneck pace you hardly notice the dearth of emotional content beneath all the gimmickry. The all-star cast emote and grimace on cue but aside from Hackman and Huston they’re all idiosyncrasy without much substance. Royal was a terrible father and his children are paying the price, that much is clear, but without more illumination the scars they bear are just so much cinematic excess—Stiller rants and pouts, Paltrow stares and pouts, Wilson just pouts. Anderson’s signature panache is in full evidence however as New York is given a capricious fairy tale sheen and everyone seems suspended in a retro time bubble. Unfortunately this is a film in need of an anchor, or at least a cohesive point of reference, and without either one its actors are left in limbo and all those final resolutions seem pat and dry.

Not bad, typical wes Anderson... slow, long takes, overdramatic dialogues, character development, fashion, little plot. Good if you like him/that style

Best Wes Anderson film in my book , long takes with great talent ( Angelica Houston & Gene Hackman ) play off each other's talent . Wilson , Paltrow, and as always B. Murray give great performances in this dark comedy.

Is this movie really as good as people say it is? Yep.

The Royal Tenenbaums is one of my favorite movies. The first time I watched it, I tried to figure out where it was going. That was a mistake. You will enjoy it more if you just relax and appreciate the dialogue, performances and director/co-writer Wes Anderson's exquisite attention to detail. Don't overthink it. The movie is about a family of former child prodigies. With the exception of the matriarch Etheline, all of the family members have failed to grow up or are struggling with adulthood. Gene Hackman's performance as the patriarch Royal is perfect. I recommend The Royal Tenenbaums for people who like independent film comedies (I'm surprised it is classified as a drama here) and/or movies about dysfunctional families. It is rated R for some language, sexuality/nudity and drug content.

A family of child prodigies is in conflict after their father gets sick. With it's beautiful shots, scenes, and characters, the audience is thrown in this world where love comes in secrets and surprises. An all-star cast embodies the now-adult geniuses, and Anderson tells the story of their lives.

My all time fav Wes Anderson film. Every detail is perfectly arranged. Every character is perfectly flawed. A quirky and beautiful family tale.
