Violet, Klaus, & baby Sunny Baudelaire were made orphans after the unfortunate death of the parents in a fire. Their parents' Will stated that all of their fortune was to go in to trust & not to be accessable until Violet comes of age. Also stated in their Will is that children were to be given to their next-of-kin. Since the placement with Count Olaf was a complete failure, they were transferred to the next available family member, Montgomery Montgomery, or Uncle Monty. Uncle Monty is a lover of snakes, all kinds. He was the one to discover a new breed of snake which he decided to name the Incredibly Deadly Viper. Ironically enough, this snake is completely harmless, hence the fun in naming it a seriously dangerous name. This particular snake would help the children escape from yet another attempt by Count Olaf to step in & take control of the children again. This time, Count Olaf disguised himself as a fellow snake researcher, gained entrance into Montgomery's home, & murdered him. Once the kids solved the mystery & revealed Olaf's true identity, Mr Poe began looking for the next family member to take custody of the children which led him to Aunt Josephine. On to Book 3!

This book started with the children meeting their new guardian, Uncle Monty. Unlike Count Olaf, they determined very quickly that he was a kind man, despite the fact that he shares his home with hundreds of snakes! It was so nice to see the kids end up with somebody that really cared about them. However, as there are several more books in this series named "A Series of Unfortunate Events", it wasn't hard to deduce that this was too happy of a situation for things to end here. I hated to see Uncle Monty die as he seemed to be a genuinely sweet man. I once again chose a version of the audio book that happened to be narrated by Tim Curry. Once again...fantastic narration! He did an AMAZING job of hacking just like I imagine Mr Poe doing. I am sad to see the kids being transferred to yet another family member, but I have been constantly amazing at their intelligence & ingenuity. I am definitely in it to finish the series.

I don't think I stopped giggling the whole way through. Uncle Montgomery's voice... Tim Curry is the best.
