"Georgette Heyer is the Queen of the Regency Romance. Long may she reign!" —New York Times bestselling author LAUREN WILLIG

Deliciously feisty and exuberant, Arabella Tallant is one of Georgette Heyer's most memorable and engaging heroines

Daughter of a modest country clergyman, Arabella Tallant is on her way to London when her carriage breaks down outside the hunting lodge of the wealthy Mr. Robert Beaumaris. Her pride stung when she overhears a remark of her host's, Arabella pretends to be an heiress, a pretense that deeply amuses the jaded Beau. To counter her white lie, Beaumaris launches her into high society and thereby subjects her to all kinds of fortune hunters and other embarrassments.

When compassionate Arabella rescues such unfortunate creatures as a mistreated chimney sweep and a mixed-breed mongrel, she foists them upon Beaumaris, who finds he rather enjoys the role of rescuer and is soon given the opportunity to prove his worth in the person of Arabella's impetuous young brother...

I adored this novel! Arabella, I found to be somewhat annoying in the beginning, but she does get better! And Mr. Beaumaris I loved all the way through!;) The story is highly enjoyable and very humorous and I was very pleased with the ending. It is a must-read if you like Jane Austen or the Regency Romance era. Definitely.

I really enjoy Georgette Heyer's books and this one didn't disappoint. I think Mr. Beaumaris is one of the better guys. Arabella was a bit innocent but at the same time, a bit reckless, which made her likable as well. Recommended if you like Regency romance.

Perfect for Jane Austen lovers!

I've gotten used to the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am of modern storytelling where plot developments unfold at a breakneck speed, so this book seemed a little slow to develop, and Heyer seemed only too happy to prove her historical research by putting in every. last. tidbit. However, I was looking for a light and diverting romance, and that's exactly what Heyer delivered. Arabella was a charming and winsome heroine, very appealing in her penchant for rushing to help the troubled; and Mr. Beaumaris is an amusing chap who plays at reluctance in helping Arabella's strays, but nevertheless does the right thing.

Most romances tell the story from the heroine's point of view so the reader knows she is in love and pines for the hero before we are certain of his feelings. In Arabella, Beaumarais succombs first, and his gentleness toward her is very affecting. As usual, Heyer has crafted an entertaining story with engaging characters.

This is one of my favourite Heyer's, featuring a very likeable, kind-hearted yet impulsive heroine. The book is very funny, very sweet, with some nice complications and twists. This is a perfect Heyer to start with if you've never tried one of her classic, sparkling, witty romances. I really love this book!
