We hadn't seen this relatively early Woody Allen film for some years, and did not remember how wonderful it is. It's very funny, but also very touching and poignant. Woody's character is not a wise-acre intellectual obssessed with sex, as in many of his early films. Instead he is a caring, loyal theatrical management agent, who nurtures his stable of odd entertainment clients. Woody and Mia Farrow are superb and all the other actors also nail their parts. The film is beautifully shot in black-and-white by master cinematographer Gordon Willis. Its theme of "acceptance, forgiveness and love" is movingly depicted in the final minute. This is one of Woody's best!
