It's Monday morning when Meghan Fitzmaurice blows her perfect life to bits. The host of "Rise and Shine," the country's highest rated morning talk show, Meghan cuts to a commercial break, but not before she mutters two forbidden words into her open mike. It's the end of an era, not only for Meghan, a household face who is not equipped to deal with disgrace, but for her younger sister s Bridget, a social worker in the Bronx who has lived always in Meghan's long shadow. The effect of Meghan's on-air profanity--and truth telling--is felt by her son, her husband, her friends, her fans and even the city of New York, the capitol of appearance over reality.

A very good story about two sisters. One a famous TV personality and the other a social worker who works with inner city problems in the poor ghettos of New York city.
Was not impressed with the use of bad language though.

I really enjoyed this novel. The contrast between the two sisters was sharp, but benign and loving. The view of a media star's exposure to the public reads true. The life of the wealthy, it's isolation, also reads true. There is forgiveness available between the sisters and redeems them. Full understanding of the other is impossible, but acceptable. And there is humor!

decent book. very descriptive, but the characters feel manufactured. halfway through i still didn't know what the point of the novel was, but it all comes together in the end. i'd recommend if you're going on vacation or just want to have a lazy read during the weekend.

It was amazingly vivid. I almost believed that if I looked right outside my window I could see Times Square. Anna Quindlen makes words come to life...
