After reading his "Hollywood" series and non fiction works of "Fire Lover" and "Onion Field" it was really interesting to read his first work and get an idea of how his style began. New Centurions follows three new LAPD recruits from the academy and onto the street. The reader becomes a sort of fly-on-the-wall as we read about these characters and how they evolve. New Centurions also deals with the race relations plaguing the City of Los Angeles and its police force in addition to the struggles for the individual police officer coping not only with the race\relation struggle but also how they fit in and the challenges before them both as police officers and individuals in society.
If you enjoy reading Wambaugh you must read this book, once I got started I could not put it down. You will be amazed at how quickly you read through the over 500 pages!
