Great book for children of all ages (not to mention us adults). We discovered a tattered softcover of this book someone gave us that was published in 1977 proving it's lasting relevancy to life in the present. The theme of "fitting in" vs "independent thinking" is timeless and ageless. Great book for home libraries. Priceless book for dealing with peer pressure on many levels.

The Big Orange Splot is a great classic picture book with themes of expressing your individuality, being happy at home and talking about your dreams. I recommend it for all ages--adults, too.

Two of my first grade students recommended this book to me after borrowing it from the library. It is a great find! Mr. Blumbean frees himself and his neighbors to create houses (artworks) that are expressions of their own dreams after his neat cookie-cutter house is splatted by a can of paint dropped by a seagull (no one knows why). Children love drawing their own "dream houses" after reading the book.

I really liked reading this to my kids. Maybe it's because I remember it being read to me as a kid. Great message. Be yourself.
