I read a variety of types of books and especially when stressed, and I do like to sit down with a good cozy mystery with very little direct violence. I have read other books in this series in order, and have enjoyed them, especially the earlier books in the series.
Howeer, this book was disappointing. This book read more like a so-so young adult novel, with immediate action in the first few pages, i.e. the protagonist breaking her leg, etc. in a horse-riding accident. Lots of things were thrown in. And the end left what happened to the check unclear. I pushed myself to finish reading the book just to see what happened, but it definitely was not a satisfying read.

The mystery is OK but simplistic. There is very little character development -- there definitely was more in her earlier books in the series. Ferris had begun to develop Goddy into a more mature character, but with the stereotyped description of mature, irresponsible guy men, she went downhill. Such description definitely was a put off for me.

The one thing that seems to be described well is some of the knitting.

If I can't remember what a book was like one week after I've returned it, I can't give it very many stars, now can I. The best thing about the book was the pattern in the back, which I am about to try.
