Unusual adaptation of this famous book. The DVD version with Helena Bonham-Carter is much much better.

I have not read E.M. Forster's novel nor seen the Merchant Ivory version of this film. However, I found this movie to be vapid to the point where I wondered if it was made for tv, and hence watered down to become romance for those who think Twilight is great fiction. Although I accept the premise that someone would marry out of their class for love, I could not believe that George was sufficiently interesting to draw the heroine to flout class conventions and marry him, while the closing scene of the movie quite frankly made me want to smack the film makers upside the head, due to its complete lack of lead-in narrative.

On a more technical note, we had to adjust our set to try to clarify the dialogue, as the sound is not as crisp as it should be, and there are no subtitles or closed captioning to assist.

The description above should say "1910," rather than "1992." She then revisits the place in 1922. That aside, I notice there is a lot of biting criticism here about not staying true to the original, but I found this to be a very enjoyable film, great cast, beautiful scenery, and I even liked the new twist on the ending.

This version is far, far inferior to the earlier film version with Maggie Smith, Helena Bonham-Carter at. al. Why this screen-writer thought he could improve on the ending E.M. Forster gave the book, I will never know. I wish the library would get hold of a copy of the Merchant-Ivory version.

NOT the Merchant/Ivory film version. ••• I found this BBC version just a lot of babble. Hard to listen to. Hard to watch.

NO Closed Captions! I couldn't watch it. What a letdown!

Not as good as the version I have with Helena Bonham Carter and Maggie Smith. I much prefer the ending of the older version with Maggie Smith to this one. This version was dry, stuffy, and not nearly as much fun as the way the other was presented.

This is a romantic movie that takes place in England and Italy. The characters range from very young to very old, and all of them are charming. It is a study of the elegance and beauty in creativity, spontaneity, sincerity, and sensitivity to the beauty of normal life. Excellent acting, sound track, photography.

This version is good, but I like the one better with Helen Bonham-Carter. The chemistry between all the characters are better

When you start rooting for Lucy to marry Cecil Vyse, you know a production of Room With a View is in trouble. The lovers are played as self-confident, modern types, and there is no reason why they should not fall into one another's arms immediately. I blame the screenplay, which does not show class differences but tells them (e.g. "you are a different class than him". That's Andrew Davies, earning the big bucks.) In addition, it has the most pointless change of ending I have seen in a produced screenplay. There is a lot of architecture and scenery, if you like that kind of thing.
