The Rosetta Key --- by William Dietrich. Dietrich scores another thrilling adventure novel featuring Eathen Gage, his American expatriate and adventures, a scoundrel if you will, who lives live at the edge, a man who seems to be immune to death. This time his antics are set against the backdrop of Napoleon’s incursion into the Middle East where he takes Jaffa but where, eventually, he is bested when he cannot take Acre. Cut off from France by a British Fleet on the Mediterranean just bristling with armament; increasingly short of ammunition; and suffering the perdition of disease that is taking an increasing toll of his troops, Napoleon, repulsed at Acre, turns, his tail between his legs, to return to the Nile sending to Paris, dispatches painting glowing reports of his efforts in the Holy Land. Our hero Gage, a man gifted, seemingly, with at least nine lives, dances just one step ahead of his ghoulish pursuers, repeatedly outwitting dept by a hair’s breadth. This novel, as usual for Eathen Gage and William Dietrich, is full of action, suspense and villains that also seem to be immune to death. If you want adventure, read this book!
