New spies with new loyalties, old spies with old ones; terror as the new mantra; decent people wanting to do good but caught in the moral maze; all the sound, rational reasons for doing the inhuman thing; the recognition that we cannot safely love or pity and remain good "patriots" -- this is the fabric of John le Carré's fiercely compelling and current novel A Most Wanted Man.

Thrilling, compassionate, peopled with characters the reader never wants to let go, A Most Wanted Man is a work of deep humanity and uncommon relevance to our times.

I found this very good. I always read the book prior to seeing a movie based on a book and
in this case, I was very happy to have done so. Did not enjoy the dvd at all, so much is
missing that we had in the book details.

Le Carre never fails to entertain and educate. Despite his advancing age he is still a master story teller, and this is well worth the read.

Le Carre is the best at what he does--thoughtful and morally complex tales of espionage, corruption, and political failure. This one doesn't match up to his best, but it's still pretty darn good.

What a pleasure to read this book. Le Carre once again delivers a top drawer spook novel. I think that some may find his style a little confusing at times but one wants to savour Le Carre's stories like eating fine chocolate. Treat yourself to some word candy.

A bit of a plodding narrative. Decent story but stereotypical antagonists. Worth reading if you are interested.

Shallow story line. Not an easy read

A Most Wanted Man, based on John le Carré's 2008 novel and featuring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in his final starring role, opens July 25 2014. Director Anton Corbijn's cast also includes Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe and Robin Wright.

Fantastic. I read it in 4 days. The book definitely 'captures the zeitgeist' (from the review on the jacket). The master gets inside the good shepherds' scheming like nobody else.

I don't usually read this type of fiction, but I read a review and it sounded interesting.
It's mostly about the insecurity and paranoia of european police institutions with muslim immigrants who they suspect to be "funding terrorism".
The book is basically about extraordinary rendition, the disappearing of these type of people who are considered an enemy of the state, and sending them abroad to secret prisons for torture and detainment.

Quite scary..I wish more mainstream fiction would tackle issues like this!
