Ted Dekker rules!!!! Thumbs up for this series. After reading the Circle I didn't think things could possibly get better. SO WRONG. Meet your new fav characters. (Go sylvie) its so interesting to find out what happened before the whole drowning-in-water-to-escape-the-disease-thing. Chosen rocks! #teddekkerisawesome

Awesome book! Totally read this! I'm finished with the second book in the series and look forward to the third and the fourth books.

My goodness, I did NOT expect such a good book. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!! It pulled me in right from the beginning. Dekker's style is superb, and the way he tells things is really different from a normal author. It really helped me get that this world was very different from our own, yet somehow familiar. And as a Christian myself, the way he wove things together was excellent. First off, the suspense level is SO HIGH. I prefer to read romances, but I needed a fast from that. Seriously, though, that was some of the best suspense I've ever read! You were constantly hoping for Johnis and Silvie and Darsal and Billos. The characters themselves were wonderful. A teensy bit one-dimensional, but this is a series, so I'm pretty sure we're just scratching the surface on their personalities. Johnis was a very good central character because he was different from the others-he didn't just rush on ahead, but he thought about things. But, you know, who ever said thinking about things made the things less RECKLESS? Johnis is VERY reckless, in my mind, more so than the others, but the thing is his recklessness had a plan behind it. He became a very strong character toward the end. The end isn't exactly a cliff-hanger, but it DOES leave the door wide open for the next book, so be sure to get it. I know I'm reading it next. Read this. 5 stars. You will love it. P.S. I ship JohnisxSilvie...

"I don't care whether or not you're enjoying this. The question is whether or not you've lost the few peanuts contained in that container above your shoulders..." -Darsal

"And was there anything else the Roush told you that you haven't bothered to mention?" Silvie asked, lying three feet from him. To preserve body heat, the Forest Guard normally slept side by side if caught out in the desert, but she didn't seem eager to follow the practice.
"They told me two things," Johnis said.
Darsal grunted and slumped to the ground on his other side. "Wonderful."
He was now flanked by two beautiful, grumpy women. Wonderful indeed.
"Well?" Silvie pressed. "What did they tell you?"
Johnis cleared his throat. "The first thing they told me was that I was chosen at birth to save all of you."
Silence.
"The second was that I will die."
