A fascinating (if frequently frustrating) debut from a highly original band with with a unique style. The Decemberists can't always turn their whimsical ramblings into actual songs, but when they do connect (most strongly with "Leslie Anne Levine", "Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect" and "The Legionnaire's Lament") remarkable things happen.
