This, the first of the Onyx Court quartet, surprised me in it's originality and depth. Not just another faery fantasy -- Brennan's done her research thoroughly as far as both the human history and the details of the various types of faery folk. How she entwInes them both above and beneath the city of London is quite a glorious surprise. How would I even categorize such a book? I would say a literary/historical/fantasy of the first order.

I loved how the author intertwined the fantasy world of the Fae with real events in Elizabethan history. Great book for anyone who loves anthropology, myth, British history and fairies.
