I can't recommend this book highly enough.

This was written for teenagers, but I think it is a great read for any age...a great overview of the Civil War and the lead up to it.

A 200 page primer that when done, I felt I had a really good grasp on the war [battles, issues, generals]. I have now decided to delve deeper and learn more about Grant, Sherman and Gettysburg.

The author has a light writing style which is easy to read, interesting, informative and exciting ...definitely NOT dull.

I think libraries should have this book in the youth AND adult sections.

Congressmen sneaking guns into the Senate chamber? Cigars that led to a major battle? Soldiers having rats for dinner? While recounting the history of the Civil War, Sheinkin brings in lots of interesting, unusual details that makes the reader realize just how hard the war was.
