"[I]n New York ... Barack Obama learns that his father--a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man--has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey--first to a small town in Kansas, from which he retraces the migration of his mother's family to Hawaii, and then to Kenya, where he meets the African side of his family, confronts the bitter truth of his father's life, and at last reconciles his divided inheritance"--Container.

Listened to this while driving to DC for Obama's 2nd inauguration. Loved it, and the fact that it was read by him. His familiar voice and his story ... loved it!

Mr. Obama is surprisingly open about his youth (which might not have been the case if he had written the book after becoming president), and this is probably what his critics are after - but it's not what the book is about: it's about his voyage towards a distinct African-American identity. His reading of the Audiobook is a pleasure to listen to: he is a talented imitator of accents, too!

Wonderful audiobook. Barack Obama himself reads his story with great expression, humor, and candor. I am learning so much about our new president. He's had a very interesting life and it's just going to get more interesting.
