Picked up this book interested in the life of Michael J. Fox as both a Canadian actor and a person living with Parkingsons. Although interesting and informative, I was expecting more about living with PD and instead got a lot of politics.

I read this hearing MJF's voice the whole way. I feel like he is such an iconic part of my generation, the Alex P Keaton/Marty McFly every man. Yet, in hearing a first hand account of his life with Parkinsons, he is a superman. His whole life ties together, his work, his faith, his politics and his family. He is inspirational, and I feel he would likely have accomplished great things even if not spurred on by his own illness.

I would consider this an excellent read alike to Rob Lowe's Stories I Only Tell My Friends, not just for content, but for tone. Smart and funny.

Michael is a very positive person. I love that he's so hopeful and still has a sense of humour. I also love that he falls in love with his wife every single day.

As this is the first book of his that I have read, I thorough enjoyed the uplifting look at life.

This was not a fast read, but with time to reflect on his ideas and how he can possibly possess such positivity, I was touched.

I've liked Michael J Fox since his Family Ties days and this peak into his life was interesting. I'm also looking for ways to be more "glass half full". Content overlapped a fair bit with MJF's book "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future".

2nd instalment in Michael's memoirs of his journey through life with Parkinson's Disease. Very positive, uplifting book which focuses on Michael's life after leaving his acting career behind, starting up his foundation and campaigning for stem cell research. Easy to read, and interesting for those with an interest in stem cell research, politics and human stories.

In Always Looking Up Michael J. fox takes you through the last decade of his life. Rather than being chronologically organized this book takes a thematic approach of his life through work, politics, faith and family. He shares the physical and emotional hardships of life with Parkinsons but like the title suggests Michael is an optimist. Instead of letting Parkinsons disease box him into a corner he actually pulls out the advantages in it. By working less he is able to spend more time with his family and sees this as a blessing not otherwise bestowed upon him. He takes great pride and a sense of accomplishment in his political influence regarding laws on stem cell research and with the remarkable success of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research.
At times his stories can be somewhat repetitive as situations overlap in the themes of the book and the medical jargon can be a bit bewildering but this is overshadowed with his casualness and honesty. It sometimes felt like he was sitting beside me recounting his life experiences. As a fellow army brat I could really relate to the humour in his childhood stories of growing up in Canada but any fan or anyone struggling with a disease themselves or a family member would definitely be inspired by Michael’s positive attitude.
