Your daughter doesn’t come home one night from her summer job.
You go there looking for her. No one’s seen here. But it’s worse than that.
No one’s ever seen her. So where has she been going every day? And where is she now?

In Linwood Barclay’s riveting new thriller, an ordinary man’s desperate search for his daughter leads him into a dark world of corruption, exploitation, and murder. Tim Blake is about to learn that the people you think you know best are the ones harboring the biggest secrets.

Tim is an average guy. He sells cars. He has an ex-wife. She’s moved in with a man whose moody son spends more time online than he should. His girlfriend is turning out to be a bit of a flake. It’s not a life without hassles, but nothing will prepare Tim for the nightmare that’s about to begin.

Sydney vanishes into thin air. At the hotel where she supposedly worked, no one has ever heard of her. Even her closest friends seem to be at a loss. Now, as the days pass without word, Tim must face the fact that not only is Sydney missing, but that the daughter he’s loved and thought he knew is a virtual stranger.

As he retraces Sydney’s steps, Tim discovers that the suburban Connecticut town he always thought of as idyllic is anything but. What he doesn’t know is that his every move is being watched. There are others who want to find Syd as much as Tim does.

But they’re not planning a Welcome Home party.

The closer Tim comes to the truth, the closer he comes to every parent’s worst nightmare—and the kind of evil only a parent’s love has a chance in hell of stopping.

Baker & Taylor
When his seventeen-year-old daughter fails to return from her summer job at the local hotel, an alarmed Tim checks with the hotel manager only to discover that the teen never worked there and has gone missing, a situation that turns more terrifying when his initial search results in a death threat.

I have read everything this library carries by Linwood Barclay. He never, ever fails to disappoint me. My problem is trying to put the books down to get on with my chores and errands! If you enjoy Mr. Barclay's books, do try out Harlan Coben's books, in the same genre and tone, they are excellent, too.

Another fast paced thriller from Canadian Barclay - he never disappoints. His stories feature average people caught up in unusual circumstances that force them out of their day to day life into a fight for their life.
Here a daughter goes missing, her workplace has never heard of her, the police get nowhere and Dad gets drawn ever deeper into a complex web to find her.
No super heroes or fantastic special agents or world ending plots but ordinary people forced by circumstance to do extraordinary things.

I just completed this book and even though it was fast paced, it was rather far-fetched. Sometimes, less is more. First time reading this Canadian author and will try another of his books as I love to support our Canadian writers.

This is a very enjoyable read. Lots of plot with twists and turns until the end - also good character development. I will definitely read more by this author.

I had to read this book for book club at school, and i found it amazing. It is a really good mystery and it leaves you on the edge of your seats at each chapter. I think they should make a movie for this book, i woulddefinatly watch it. I am usually not a huge fan of mystery books but after reading this one i have read some great mysterys such as 'Then There Were None',another one is 'the next accident' I would suggest any one who likes mystery to read any of these books. Enjoy!

Plot is strong up until the last third of the book, where my two complaints pop up:
1. a twist near the end that feels like Barclay pulled it out of his rear.
2. After the chaos throughout the story, which results in numerous deaths and property destruction, the book just...ends, with no real sense of closure.

I am a huge fan of Linwood Barclay, but this is the weakest of his thrillers.

A little slow starting but once you you get into it there is a lot of twists. Keeps you guessing right to the end.
