Very cool graphics, vampire and lots of sexual suspense. If you enjoy gothic vampire stories Paquin nails it as do the other actors/actresses. Not for kids.

Disgusting, Vulgar, Crude, and Obscene are the first words that come to mind. HBO has created the worst adaptation of a book that has ever been perpetrated on any author. I was not aware that KCLS carried porn in their movie selections.

Without out a doubt, this series is mindless entertainment. If you’re serious about vampires and other things occult, then “True Blood” is not for you. Jason Stackhouse is my favorite character and reason to continue on to Season 2. I am curious to see what sort of trouble he’ll get into next.

Good show. But the library can't say "the complete first season" because the last disc is missing. I dont know about anyone else but i find the most important episodes on the last disc. So just not having it is ridiculous.

I NEVER... EVER THOUGHT THAT I'D ENJOY THIS SERIES, NOW-CONCLUDED, BUT...

I must say that over all, this series must represent some sort of television landmark. High German Romanticism perfectly transposed to the Louisiana Bayou, T.B. never failed to "up" the outré... and it always worked. I also believe that he series must be appreciated with-in its own context, so original is it. The humor always seemed to be spot-on... and I have to say that my favorite character among all, was "Pam"... a girl after-my -own-heart, for sure... but, may-be that's not the best way to put it! !@#$%^&*

Enjoyed the story in most parts but annoyed that the attraction between the central characters Bill and Sookie remained a mystery. Hope the producers would add much more budget to improve the special effects and set designs in the rest of the series.

Slow, but it builds; cliche climax (!) but acting is better than average,

This has been one of my favorite shows. I absolutely love vampires and the story this show gives them is very interesting, addictive and sexy.

A novel twist on the age-old vampire legend and a stunning first season from Alan Ball and his outstanding cast. Not for children nor the squeamish. Captivating, funny, terrifying, and outrageous by turns, this is a steaming hot tale of the deep South that will keep you on the edge of your seat and hungry for more. More what? That's up to you!

Oh this is fun! Definitely one for vampire fans, and any who enjoy shows with 'supernatura beings' and parapsychic phenomenon. Along with vampires, you'll meet shifters, werewolves, psychics and even mythical beings! If you've been looking for a show that mingles violent, supernatural horror, with camp and dark humour interwoven, you'll get a kick out of this! The action can be exciting, or sometimes intentionally funny. It is also made to be highly sexual, and full of steamy romance, so it's not for the prudish (as said by another reviewer). It has a lot of nudity, including some full-frontal and flaming hot love scenes, that some could consider pornographic'. Actors bodies are usually appealing: 'hot' and muscular. It's not 'too teen', but could appeal to teens too. I am a middle-aged woman, and I love it! It's an easy watch and really fun to have on whilst doing my crafts. I did have some trouble with skipping disks, but found several good cleans with damp electronic wipes fixed the problem (I always keep these available for library disks, which are often dirty with sticky fingerprints etc.).

Harley (waitress): I don't know any Cindy. But I can recommend the fried apple pie, the frozen Hawaiian pie, the chocolate pecan praline pie, the chess pie, the seven-layer Jell-O pie... They'll have the peanut butter pie and the Spunky Hollow honey pineapple pie,

Buster (customer): please, Harley?
Harley: Gotcha, Buster.

Buster: You won't get nothing from her. She only been here... two weeks. Come from three generations as dumb as rocks. Hell, they named her after a motorcycle.

Bill Compton: You want to drink the blood they collected?
Sookie Stackhouse: [disgusted] No!
Bill Compton: I understand it makes humans feel more healthy. Improves their sex life.
Sookie Stackhouse: I'm as healthy as a horse, and I have no sex life to speak of, so... you can just keep it.
Bill Compton: You could always sell it.
Sookie Stackhouse: I wouldn't touch it.
Bill Compton: [leans in close] What are you?
Sookie Stackhouse: Well, I-I'm-I'm Sookie Stackhouse, and I'm a waitress. What's your name?
Bill Compton: Bill.
Sookie Stackhouse: [giggles] Bill? I thought it might be Antoine, or Basil, or-or-or like Langford, maybe. But, Bill? Vampire Bill!

Tara Thornton: My life sucks.
Sookie Stackhouse: Tara, don't you be fellin' sorry for yourself. That's just lazy.
Tara Thornton: But why can't I keep a job?
Sookie Stackhouse: Maybe because you can't keep your mouth shut.
Tara Thornton: Bitch, who asked you!
[winks]

In a society where humans and vampires co-exist, set in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, Sookie Stackhouse is a young woman who may have found a perfect boyfriend. Sookie is clairvoyant and constantly hears people's thoughts so it makes dating a bit difficult since she tries to keep her ability a secret. When 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton walks into the Merlotte's Bar & Grill where she works as a waitress, she realizes that she can't "hear" what he's thinking, thus giving away his origins since she can't hear the thoughts of those whom are technically dead.
