Wonderful way to get introduced to paleobiology. Ideal for those who want a good visual of evolution through the fossil record. NOT the definitive guide to extinct species, but then again how could it be? The human timeline could have been built up a bit more. I have the paperback edition which is much easier to handle.

OOOOOOOOOOOOH... SHINEEEE! But seriously, this is the mother of all paleontology/paleontobiology vulgarisation books. Well made, glossy paper, well illustrated, and reasonably up to date in a field where new discoveries are constantly made. It's a fine and complete introduction to the fascinating history of complex life on earth, and will invite you to go out and find more. Nice coffee table or bedside book, even if it's a bit heavy.

If your branch doesn't have a copy, request it!
