This book describes the confrontation between Rosa Parks and the bus driver on that fateful day in Montgomery back in 1955 through the eyes of a young boy watching from the back of the bus. I particularly appreciated the phrases like "she's got her strong chin on," "crinkled-up somethin's-wrong voice," and "lightnin'-storm eyes," which lends authenticity to the young narrator's voice. This book is illustrated by Coretta Scott King honored artist Floyd Cooper, and it provides a good jumping-off point for a parent's discussion of Martin Luther King day and the topic of American civil rights.
