Terrific movie, perfect casting, superb acting. Unlike most American movies with their glamor actors, big plots, virile testosterone laced guy talk, and fast action, the beauty of the young African man - his being and spirit - and the soulfulness and woundedness visible through the anger of the old, lonely Southern man increasingly touched the heart and drew me in because of the spaciousness in the dialogue and the silences. For me they were laden with emotional power evoking a compassion for humanity, how hard life is.

Independent film makers and the lovers of "Indie" films can rejoice! "Goodbye Solo" came from obscurity and into the light because of it humanity and beauty. Directed by Ramin Bahrani we travel with a Winston-Salem, North Carolina cab driver named Solo. He is a Senegalege cab driver who is just new to the United States. He has much to be proud of and much that he wants to accomplish. He picks up a passenger that will change his life. Along the way, I felt my life changing with his. You might have the same feeling if you see this wonderful film. It has no big Hollywood stars and it shows a side of society that you may not be familiar with. Still it is worth the ride and you may be glad you witnessed such a fine movie!

This is a decent human drama film, but way over-rated by the film critics. An old man, not very likeable, wanted to commit suicide for reasons unexplained, and a kind-hearted immigrant cab driver wanted to save him. Acting was OK but at places forced. Don't get me wrong, for what it is this is a watchable film. But nothing to jump up and down about.

I'm sure it's a great movie but I couldn't watch it because the DVD was in such poor condition.

t really is too bad that people don't show more respect for library material.

This was one of those films that you really had to focus on and then once it was over , think about what you thought you saw and then about what you really saw. The performances were excellent , even the little girl's.

Movie wasn't totally what I expected. I found it was too depressing and a lot of it went know where. There was too much time on details of the setting rather than the story. It didn't explain any reasoning as to why the one person wanted to end his life.

i liked this movie but it is sad. Its about commitment and not giving up. Not a movie for everyone.

An interesting movie about a new immigrant who desperately wants to leave his job as a cab driver and the old man who wants to end his life. Sad ending.

Awful! Worhthless!
Solo must mean the 95% of the talking is done by one actor. The other 5% of the dialog were there to separated the endless meaningless monologue sentences!
They really need to spend only about 3 days to make this movie: 1 day to write the non-sense script and the main actor to learn the idea (if there is one); 1 day on camera; 1 day on slicing and audio mix.

Terrible movie!

Fair - Goodbye Solo (2008) 91 min. Not for everyone’s taste. It’s the story of two very different people from different generations and how their unlikely friendship teaches them something about life. Though the production value and acting are superb, the story just didn’t grab me enough to recommend this picture. The main reservation I had about the story is the improbability of the relationship (not the genesis of the friendship but the maintenance of the friendship).
