U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko is the only law-enforcement officer assigned to Antarctica. Carrie is on the verge of shipping out before the really bad weather hits, when she is confronted with a mysterious murder that sounds like a riddle: how'd a lone corpse find its way to the middle of an ice field, as though dropped from a great height? And what does this have to do with the prologue about a Soviet fighter jet crashing some decades earlier? Along with other snowbound stragglers are a U.N. investigator, some cocky pilots, and a grizzled doctor.

I thought the movie would have been more of a thriller than it was, so I didn't give it a good rating. The acting wasn't quite believable - like the lines were read and not acted out facially. Very disappointed.

A teenage "Slasher movie", set in Antarctica...
I guess if you're watching it for that reason, the following won't matter:
Total BS from beginning to end.
Predictable (especially if you're keen to anything Hollywood does), including the "bad guy".
Umm. Superman only wishes he could do what the 98lb L.A. model can do in this film. Typical of Follywood, the men are made inept, especially in the area of physical ability, compared to our little model. LOL!

Set in Antarctica, this murder mystery/thriller contains some good action sequences -- especially an early scene where Carrie Stetko, played by Kate Beckinsale, is pursued relentlessly through a blizzard by an unsub with an ice-axe.
The gratuitous strip and shower scene that introduces us to Stetko makes it a little rough to take her seriously, and most of the characters are cardboard cutouts. Overall though, its a fast-paced action flick with decent mystery driving the plot, and an outstanding use of location.

Good – Whiteout (2009) 101 min. Kate Beckinsale plays a policewoman in the Antarctica investigating a murder. The action is continuous and the depiction of “cold” certainly comes through to the point that you may need a blanket to get through this one. Though the plot becomes contrived and unrealistic, the film does entertain with some half-decent thrill scenes.

Whiteout is murder mystery suspense thriller that takes place in Antarctica. The setting alone makes it pretty cool (pun totally intentional, man I am funny) but add some decent acting, an OK cop vs killer story and Kate Beckinsale (insert sexy cat noise here) and you got a pretty good movie that critics will hate and I liked. The film looks really good, they really captured the beauty that Antarctica can hold while at the same time giving you that creepy isolated vibe that a place like that inevitable has. It is not breaking new ground as far as the narrative goes, but it is good for what it is trying to do.
