Whether you pick Season I, II or II, I believe the Smother Brothers Comedy Hour was great all three seasons. The brothers were fighting the television censors and trying to make political humor. Today it would be nothing compared to Comedy Centrals shows. It is a variety show and you will see some outstanding performers of the time. The Smother Brothers introduce each episode with background information of the taping. Every Smother Brothers Show is available and they are worth the time to watch.

This DVD provides an opportunity to see a slice of life from the real 1960's, with San Jose State graduates, Tom and Dick Smothers, providing their unique comedic-satire. People of the day were mixed. Some said what Tom and Dick were saying was the plain and simple truth. Some said the Smother's Brothers Comedy Hour was radical and un-American. The unpopular Vietnam war was tearing the nation apart. Protesting college students were being teargased, and in at least one case, Kent State, students were shot and killed. And in this cultural soup, the "Smothers Brothers Comedy hour" on CBS was a widely watched nation-wide hit TV show. Until the brother's biting satire upset certain politicians, who phoned up CBS to complain, and Tom and Dick were promptly fired.

An abridged 4 disc set of major highlights from the third and final season of the show. Red letter, must see, 1968/69 appearances by The Doors, Bob Newhart, David Steinberg, George Carlin, Jonathan Winters, and an incredibly touching version of Dion's 'Abraham, Martin, and John'.
