The year is 2019 (So futuristic!) and most of the population is vampires. The most precious commodity? Blood! But a vampire scientist (It's a thing.) is working on a solution. Hey, you're not watching this for the plot. A fine cast, who is better than the material, takes it seriously and there is some pretty good action, even if the whole thing is ludicrous. Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Sam Neill star. 2 Australian brothers direct. If you want blood, you got it.

As far as Vampire movies goes, this has to be one of the best ones so far. More of an intellectual\ thinking vampire movie then a Blade\Underworld one. Excellent actors in this one with a great original story. Watch this!

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! I second "erinsnest" and third "modestgoddess." It was original, interesting, written wonderfully and acted brilliantly. I compare it to 28 Days Later. (if zombies were to exsist it would be that... if vampires exsisted i think this movie clearly portrays a more realistic view of how things would be.) Loved it so much, i bought it!

I was completely unaware of this movie until i did a search on-line for horror films. I wanted to surprise my friend hoping i would see something I have not seen before. I felt my choice was very important since the last movie we watched. I speak of the dreadful "The Happening" by M.Night. I really had to pick something decent. I narrowed my choices to 4 and chose this movie. One of the reasons why I liked this movie, being huge horror and science fiction fan, is because humans are the minority. Interesting. I also enjoyed the scene where the creature with wings and long claws casualy walks into the apartment of Ethan Hawke. The visual effects were good. My friend, who often talks back to the television trying to inform the actors on what to do, opened her eyes wide during this scene and screamed "get out of the apartment!" "run, run!" I now have new nail marks on my arm. As far as audio is concerned i did like the sound of the weapons used, but i would still consider this film more all around sound and it should be enjoyed on your HOMETHEATER. However, i will not be added this movie to my collection. For some reason, i wasn't feeling this movie 100%. And that made it a deal breaker for me. After the movie was over, my friend said she thought it was ok, but had a few questions she felt were not answered. I'm giving this movie 3 1/2 stars. Good visual effects, good story, a well known cast, and it's one of a few movies that had my friend some what quiet. A large glass of milk and Pepperidge Farms "Tahiti" cookies. Dunked them often.

I have to agree with "modestgoddess." I enjoyed this movie.

I watched barely 1/3 of this movie. It was dull, gory and didn't hold my attention. Seeing Sam Neill with fangs wasn't pretty and Ethan Hawke, an actor I admire, deserves better.

Haven't all of us wrestled with the age-old question: If vampires took over the world ... and ate or converted all the humans ... what would they eat?
This movie gives an interesting twist to the whole vampire genre ... and a new kind of 'cure' ... for those who want to be 'cured'.
Ethan Hawke plays a very tormented unwilling vampire looking for a blood substitute while his boss is running a 'human farm' that hooks people up to machines and 'milks' them for blood. Some very creepy scenes.
Good action ... believable characters ... but the ending lacked the punch it could have had and left you with more questions. If you're a vampire fan it's definitely worth a look.
