The movie by its own merit is good. I really enjoyed it and have watched it many times. When I read the book I was disappointed to find just how much they changed the movie. They absolutely destroyed her relationship with Robin. Complete 180 on Sir Benjamin's personality. And they took out all references of God, the Old Parson and giving Paradise Hill back to God to restore peace, which was such a beautiful part of the story.

The movie was cute, though nowhere near as good as the book, actually so much was altered it only superficially resembles the book. The sets and scenery were beautiful, and I liked most of the actors chosen, but I was annoyed by the unnecessary cheap and vulgar humor introduced, and the beautiful religion that was removed and replaced with a weak-kneed, watered-down, trivialized naturalist type of magic - absent of any real power, and robbing the characters of a rich and complex depth. The director missed the point of the story, and the shallow changes didn't improve on it at all.

Wow what a great story. They have borrowed from The Last Unicorn, Narnia etc. and made an enjoyable story that was over to quick.
