I love this series. Great concept, characters, action, and skulduggery!

For poor writing and just general problems with this author (see comments on other two books) simply could not get into this book. In fact couldn't even finish it (maybe 75%???).

I have - again - noted how I actually LIKE some of Ringo's works... when he is co-author with a very good author such as Drake or Weber!

Not bad sci-fi.

There is some heavy focus on the minutiae of engineering/tech troubleshooting, which can be kinda tiresome.

There are some really good ideas regarding combat in space.

Characterization is pretty good when dealing with the Terrans.

The aliens tend to be cardboard cutout villains. This takes away a little bit from enjoying the book.

"And I see storms on the horizon,
I see the tempest at the gates,
I see storms on the horizon
and a Citadel alone.
Clinging brave, defying fate..."

Looks like Mr. Ringo enjoys that music as well...

very enjoyable novel. This, the second in the series introduces 2 new characters and though a bit disjointed at the start, they weave their stories into the struggle for earth to survive.
