Melina Marchetta is a favourite of mine. Having read Saving Francesca, it was great to read this novel from Tom's POV. I loved it!
Communication is hard under the best of circumstances. It's hard to truly understand one another, and that is something that Melina Marchetta is so skilled at articulating. Tom, the title character, and his aunt are both reeling from their own personal demons, as well as the death of his uncle in the London Tube bombing. But at the heart of their dysfunction is misunderstanding the people around them. And we can all identify with that.
