I love this book now, but it was somewhat painful when I was child. Children that lie or live too much in a world of fantasy are often stuck in unhappy homes, or suffer from intense feelings of abandonment. The more in touch the child is with their emotions, the more likely they are to suffer. Highly creative and imaginative children often lie. In stable homes the parents will curb this effectively. In unstable homes, or where, as in this book, a single parent is raising a lonely child, the fantasy life can be difficult to overcome. As a child I lived in moonshine, and when I read this book I recognised myself. It is a beautiful book and a beautifully illustrated, and definitely worth reading.
