I don't see why it was rated so low. The actual military parts were good. The actual attack on Bin Laden was short, but that was fine because it was a short read anyhow.
The military information was good even the author gives unnecessary information but his views/knowledge of Islam is very flawed, inaccurate, unclear and ambiguous so have a discerning eye when you come across this information. The author of this book is a shooter and SEAL not an Islamic scholar. If you want accurate, researched, reliable and truthful information on Islam then read Robert Spencer's books. However in the light of the Bin Laden Raid, it was a very unintelligent and tactically unsound move on the Obama administration to reveal the name of the SEAL team that carried the mission. You can say Bin Laden was killed but under no circumstances should you reveal the name of a top-secret clandestine counter-terrorist organization or the name of its operators or anyone/anything related to SEAL Team Six. (The sensitive material, documents, locations etc.) Now because of this incident those who participated in this raid and their relatives are all at risk now. This book should not have written or rather should have been heavily edited or published 10-15 years into the near future. It is also unusual that a highly classified mission was de-classified only a year after we found out when other ops have taken 15-20 or more years to have general information released to the public. SEAL Team Six and elements of the Bin Laden Raid should have stayed secret.
Some details in book wrong no basic fact check by author or publisher other than that a decent read.
This book is a fascinating and worthwhile read for generalists who are not steeped in military or geopolitical history.
It is true that only a small portion of the book is devoted to the actual attack on Bin Laden so it can only be concluded that the title is misleading and should have been broadened somehow.
Instead the book weaves together a history of Bin Laden's upbringing and education, the Muslim Brotherhood, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, the wars in the middle east, the use of terrorism, the creation of the Green Berets and the Navy Seals in the US military, a detailed description of how Seals training works and prior Seals missions.
Sometimes descriptions of weaponry were overwrought and unnecessary, but over all it was a really interesting endeavour!
Only 17 pages described the actual attack by the best fighting Special Forces in the world today. Seal Team Six kicks A_ _. I learned as much watching CNN.
