Currently reading it, but gotta say that while Steve (naturally) has a heroin junkie's understanding of what life's like while under the influence...he's still a better song writer/singer. While it's good he wrote & acted...possibly they weren't what he did best. Saying that...I'm attending his concert Aug 8th in Tucson...none of us is as pretty as we once were...

Read this book if you are a Steve Earle fan, or you have an interest in: what the south side of San Antonio was like in the 1960's; the difference between religion and church; what happened to Hank Williams before and after he died; the days leading up to the Kennedy assassination, or if you just want to read a good book for the summer.

A story about redemption that would have benefitted from being shorter.

I really enjoyed this book! At the beginning, I was unsure about a ghost being one of the main characters, but Earle made it work very well! The unpredictability of the story and the characters was refreshing.

Debut novel by the singer-activist about a doctor-turned-addict in 1963 San Antonio who finds redemption in an unlikely way.
