The first book in the Max Tudor series

Nov 12, 2015

If you enjoy vintage British village mysteries and are intrigued by The Grandchester tales, this series of mysteries, featuring the Reverend Max Tudor , handsome ex spy, and current vicar at St. Edwold's Church in Nether Monkslip will charm and entertain you. The tales of murder and mayhem are organized around the seasons of the year, and the stories feature an entertaining and recurring cast of village dwellers. These books are perfect for lovers of the "cozy" mystery.

Current titles in the series include; A Fatal Winter, Pagan Spring, A Demon Summer, Wicked Autumn and The Haunted Season.

Good mystery. Kept me guessing until the end. Delightful characters. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

This is the first time I've read this author & I doubt I'll pick up another. Max is an interesting character but the story is just a little too sleepy & slow paced for my taste.

This book is a little wordy in places. The characterizations are very well done. The author brings a tongue-in-cheek humour to her prose that lightens the mood.

A charming setting, interesting characters, and an intriguing idea: a slyly witty homage to Christie; but somewhat weakened by sloppy writing and editing.

Entertaining and I didn't see "who done it" until it was inked out for me. I love that!

Village, self-titled, queen (Wanda) is murdered during THE annual event, the Harvest Fayre. The new vicar, Max, who in his previous life was a MI5 agent, is brought in to help the police solve the crime.

Not quite as silly as it sounds, but did the vicar really have to be MI5? I guess that makes for interesting back story and can explain his skills.

A quaint setting. Are all these small tiny hamlets in rural England so successful and full of happy people? Makes me want to visit friends there.
