Local Jeopardy! grand champion explores all those myths of childhood – like: you shouldn’t swim for an hour after eating! – and finds out from experts how true any of them are (and most aren’t!)

I really enjoyed this book. Ken Jennings did a great job combining humor to interesting facts. A great book.

An excellent companion to Jan Harold Brunvand, Cecil Adams and Mythbusters, this collection centers on the things that parents have said to their kids. The humor really comes out in the writing, and I found this to be a nice light read for the summer.

Best thing I learned - just how much bacteria is spread around the bathroom by not putting the lid down before flushing. Yech! (Jul 4-6)

"Because I Said So" provides a lighthearted compendium of conventional wisdom, debunking old wives' tales and offering a few surprising truths.

Jeopardy! braniac Ken Jennings has “compiled 125 of the nagging Mom-and-Dad-isms that we all grew up with, and then [] meticulously researched the scientific evidence behind them.” In a humourous, edgy tone, he proves that you don’t need to wait an hour after eating before swimming, that masturbation will not result in hairy palms, that sitting too close to the TV isn’t all that bad for your eyes and that eating the Christmas poinsettia leaves won’t kill you. But, in case readers needed convincing, bicyclists should always wear a helmet and breakfast really is the most important meal of the day.

Very entertaining, and although the information here isn't new, I did learn some things.

A great read, even my kids enjoyed bursting some of these bubbles!
