Blending bluegrass, folk, and punk with a rock 'n' roll attitude, The Avett Brothers, led by Seth and Scott Avett, continue to pen poignant and powerful songs on 'The Carpenter', which includes several of the group's signature harmony-driven acoustic ballands, along with some more boisterous tunes.

I was lucky enough to see The Avett Brothers in Grand Rapids on 11/12/2016, and last year in Ann Arbor. They are always amazing live. LOVE that they are also available on Hoopla. If you like The Lumineers and are looking for something new you should definitely give this band a try.

Not as strong as some of their other offerings... but any Avett album shines brighter than most.

I distinctly remember my first experience seeing the Avett Brothers perform live. It was at a hole-in-the wall in Augusta, GA in 2005 or 2006, slammed with drunken people. It was like nothing I had ever witnessed before. They fed off pure emotion and played a crazy high intensity charged show. One of the best shows I had ever seen In my life. I really do believe what they were doing at the time to be extremely ground-breaking within the music/folk/rock industry. They were very popular with the mid 20's and 30's crowd within the southeast region of the U.S. at that time. Much like Pat Green and other Texas Country acts were and are followed in Texas. It was a great time to see this great band perform their greatest music. Although I can't get into this album, or any other recent albums, I do respect their music in terms of direction and stylistic change.
