Here is the incredible story of Elizabeth, a real-life elephant seal who made her home in the Avon River in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. When Elizabeth decides to stretch out across a two-lane road, the citizens worry she might get hurt or cause traffic accidents, so a group of volunteers tows her out to sea. But Elizabeth swims all the way back to Christchurch. The volunteers catch her again and again--each time towing her farther, even hundreds of miles away--but, still, Elizabeth finds her way back home.

Elizabeth is an elephant seal who lives in Christchurch New Zealand. She doesnt seem to mind living alone in the city, and the fresh water river. Once day she crawls up to bask on the road and almost gets hit by a car. The citizens of Christchurch decide that they must do somthing to protect the people and the seal. They use a boat to take her out to sea to live with the other seals. Each time they take her out to sea, farther and farther, she would always come back to Christchurch. Eventually the people gave up trying to move Elizabeth. Instead they put up a seal crossing sign where she liked to lay in the road.
