"A stirring testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of music, Violins of Hope tells the remarkable stories of violins owned by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust (some surviving when their owners did not) through the work of internationally-recognized Israeli violin maker Amnon Weinstein, who has spent two decades bringing these neglected, severely damaged instruments back to life"-- Provided by publisher.

Didn't think I would read another book about the Holocaust and World War II, but this one is quite different. It focuses on the musicians and their instruments, trying to tie the two together into their history.

The first chapter focuses on the creation of the Palestine Orchestra, now the Israeli Philharmonic and it is amazing. Each succeeding chapter focuses on an individual Jewish "musician" from various countries and how his musical expertise and instrument often saved him from certain death.

A relatively short book, but a wealth of information. Highly recommended.
