My first impression was that the recipes weren't "diet friendly". But after reading the intro and looking at the ingredients she uses, it's clear that her purpose isn't to give you really extreme weight loss, but to rather give you the recipes for the food that most people love, but with small changes to help them fit into a healthy diet and to lose weight gradually over time. Also her intro is very on point with what you would be told by a dietitian, so it's very different from one of those quick, fad, diet books.
I have tried a few recipes so far I have been very impressed with the flavours (the slow-cooker jerk tacos recipe is my fav!). So if you're a lover of food and want to make changes to your diet while still eating delicious food then this book is for you. If you are looking for a quick way to lose weight then I would suggest more of a fad diet book or pairing this book with a lot of exercise.
I definitely prefer Gina' s blog over this cookbook, where there are more options for food that I will actually eat. The selection of recipes is small per section (for example, only 16 recipes for poultry), which doesn't leave a lot of options if you don't eat or like certain foods. I wasn't impressed with any of these recipes, and will return without making anything (so can't comment on flavor). Her blog is excellent though!
I've found a lot of great recipes in Gina Homolka's books. She's also quite responsive on social media should you have questions regarding any of the recipes.
This book has some delicious and healthy recipes, great photos and a great introduction in the front. Highly recommended.
They're probably 'skinny' by American standards.
If you've ever eaten a meal in the USA, the portions are huge.
I found a few appealing recipes in this book, but really question the 'skinny' in the title. A lot of the recipes use more oil and sugar than necessary, and I didn't find that the calorie counts were all that low, especially when you translate the count to a normal size helping. I'm on a diet, and didn't find even one recipe I'd recommend to dieters. The recipes that appealed to me were saved for AFTER I've reached my goal weight.
