Christopher Ludwick was a baker in the colonial era when the United States was just forming. And when the war for Independence began, Christopher wanted to help too. But while most people put down their everyday lives to go to battle, he just kept on doing what he was good at: baking gingerbread. He fed hungry troops, and even enticed opposing soldiers with the sweet smell of baked bread. You may never have heard of him before, but Christopher Ludwick truly helped America win its independence—even George Washington said so—without ever lifting a weapon.
