"Lady Montfort has been planning her annual summer costume ball for months, and with scrupulous care. Pulling together the food, flowers, and a thousand other details for one of the most significant social occasions of the year is her happily accepted responsibility. But when her husband's degenerate nephew is found murdered, it's more than the ball that is ruined. In fact, Lady Montfort fears that the official police enquiry, driven by petty snobbery and class prejudice, is pointing towards her son as a potential suspect"-- Provided by publisher.

A good first entry in a new cozy mystery series. Enjoyable for fans of British drama series like Upstairs/Downstairs or Downton Abby.

(The first book in the Lady Montfort Mystery series)

For fans of British-based fiction, here is another interesting mystery series to add to your list. The upstairs/downstairs Edwardian era provides a great background for a carefully drawn plot, where it is possible, but not easy, to guess the solution.

Sorry to say this was just too slow. I got about 100 pages in and the story was not moving along. Just a lot of conversation amongst the characters. It was hard to tell who was the protagonist and the author wasn't building any relationships amongst the characters.

For mystery fans, Tessa Arlen’s Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman combines the best of Downton Abbey with a dash of Agatha Christie. Lady Montfort’s annual costume ball is the social event of the season. No detail is too small for housekeeper Mrs. Jackson’s attention – but the evening is spoilt by the discovery of Lady Montfort’s wayward nephew’s body on the manor grounds. For once, the upstairs and downstairs worlds are united in their turmoil. Lady Montfort and her housekeeper break Edwardian class lines to form an uneasy alliance to solve this twisted mystery.
