The year is 1771, and war is approaching. Jamie Fraser's wife has told him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy - a time-traveler's certain knowledge. To break his oath to the Crown will brand him a traitor; to keep it is certain doom. Jamie Fraser stands in the shadow of the fiery cross-a standard that leads nowhere but to the bloody brink of war.

Not sure what Zen was/is expecting. It is a well written book with a lot of variety with romance, history and action. I have enjoyed all theses books very much. I am thankful for well written fiction.

Jamie & Claire Fraser & their daughter Brianna, Roger, & Jemmy MacKenzie continue their lives in 1770-1771 North Carolina, USA. The hard work of running a working farm continues, but signs of war are beginning to creep into their quiet community of Fraser's Ridge. There are rumors swirling that the notorious, & very unwelcome Stephen Bonnet is back in the area. In fact, our villain meets a few of our characters in an unexpected showdown. Who comes out on top? Let's just say that Claire's aim could mean the end of any child-making for ol' Stephen. And whatever happened to young Ian? How is life treating him among his new Mohawk family? He FINALLY reappears in the last few chapters, but little is yet known about his time among the Mohawk. What happened to his wife & small child? I'm sure much of this & more will be revealed in Book #6 "A Breath of Snow & Ashes".

Age recommendation: 16 & up (some combat violence, a bit of profanity, 1-2 explicit love scenes)

On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 8.

More lovely work from Diana. Great characters. Not a sci-fi book by any means, but a wonderful novel. Zen has not read any romance novels or he would know that this is far above one of those.

NOT SF/F. Bodice ripper. I am really tired of having stuff like this foisted off on me as SF/F. This should be listed only under "romance novels". Even for a bodice ripper I find this series particularly brainless and unbelievable. I'm sure the author is weeping all the way to the bank. See my comments on the originating novel "Outlander" for a more descriptive comment.
