A rare Arabic thriller on drug trafficking trade, smuggling cannabis resin (hashish) from Morocco to France. The music was not bad, the main actress was convincing though the central theme was just youngsters trying to escape poverty in many countries around the world. Well worth a watch in my opinion.

Great indie crime flic. Gotta agree with yo918 here, anyone who can bring themselves to see a more realistic view of Arabic peoples would do well to watch this film. I see strong women and empathetic men here, despite the gritty circumstances that exist in practically any nation these days. The Syrian people begging for help building democracy appeared much the same (as any of us), before the situation was intentionally allowed to descend into chaos; but let the bombs fall and months pass and of course the bedraggled unshaven survivors begin to fit the stereotype in appearance at least. Great performances make this one a winner.

I haven’t seen too many movies about Morocco. Great portrayal of the strict rules in this country versus the drug production and smuggling from the perspective of a young woman, desperate for money and a way out of the country.

The story is pretty predictable and somewhat unlikely in places, but overall this is an interesting low budget flick that is at least as good as a lot of the crap Hollywood inflicts on us every year. And the world probably needs more movies and books that show the human side of people in countries like Morroco...our government and it's masters are obviously heavily invested in making sure we all immediately think "terrorist" when we hear anything pertaining to certain people, they need to justify this big shiny new industry they call Homeland Security or whatever it's called here. Maybe if more of us realize that most people in those countries aren't all that different from us then we might get angry and demand our leaders actually start addressing the issues that cause so many people to seem to hate us, rather than just creating yet another huge money pit to make Big Brother even bigger.

Opening song lyrics part 1of2:
Cop stops you at a roadblock
Takes all your papers away
Give him license registration
Want ’em back, now you gotta pay
Son of a General, speeding drunk
in his Porsche Cayenne
Hit a farmer on the highway
Push the speed, two hundred and ten
I’m so bored with Morocco
But what can I do?
Maghrib nouveaux riches:
Just a bunch of fucking hoods
Village in a forest, kick the people out
Cut it down and sell the wood
Down the alley come four police
Beat you here or at the station
Next day body parts on the ground
Or you’re gone to your final destination

Opening song lyrics part 2of2:
Maghrib politicians
Here comes election day
Slogans lies empty promises
Don’t believe a word they say
What a country: Sun, Sea and Sand
And all of us burning to get out
Émigré washed up on the coast of Spain
Or in prison cause he got sold out
Morocco’s rich now let’s go
spend 2 billion Euros on a high speed train
Meanwhile in the ghetto
People have nothing to eat
More, more.
Welcome to our hospital
Don’t even have antiseptic
You walk in sick or wounded
They carry you out to the funeral home

If you’re good enough...and work your ass off...and are lucky. Even then, 99 musicians
out of a hundred fail.
-You want to produce us but we have to pay?
-I am a producer, not an ATM.
-You’re 25. No job, no husband. And you stay out until God knows what time... You’re not moving anywhere till you get married. But who wants to marry a girl who wears jeans... with dirty fingernails. Not even a butcher wants to marry you!
-My mother always said, “If you are a nail, endure the knocking.”
-That’s only half of that proverb. The other half says, “If you are a hammer, strike.”
-What a dump.
-Don’t be fooled. Half the dope in Europe comes through here. (Per wiki: According to a French Ministry of the Interior 2006 report, 80% of the cannabis resin (hashish) consumed in Europe comes from the Rif region in Morocco, which is mostly mountainous terrain in the north of Morocco, ...)
