Hardly a day passes without Trille and Lena inventing some kind of adventure that often ends in trouble. Whether it́ђةs coaxing a cow onto a boat or sledding down the steepest and iciest hill with a chicken, there is always a thrilĺђؤand sometimes an injurýђؤto be had. Trille loves to share everything with Lena, even Auntie Grannýђةs waffles. But when Lena has to move away and Auntie Granny leaves the world, it sometimes seems like nothing will ever be right again. The warmth of friendship and the support of family suffuse this lightly illustrated novel, proving that when times are tough, a little taste of sweetness can make all the difference.

Fun, heartfelt, and (mostly) believable, "Adventures with Waffles" is the story of 9-year-old best friends Trille and Lena, who live in a tiny Norwegian town. I loved the characters, especially Grandpa and Lena. It's a book that can be read by all ages, although most parents probably won't want their kids imitating the protagonists. As I got further along in the book, the crazy adventures of the kids piled up just a little too much to be believable, but it's still a fun read. Fans of Jeanne Birdsall's "The Penderwicks", especially younger ones, will probably like this book.

A fresh and funny children's story full of great adventures. Lena and Trille will become your best friends.

This book had me at waffles. Norwegian friends and neighbors Lena and Trille will remind you of Pippi and Tommy and while their adventures are a bit more tame, they do result in a few concussions- plus waffles (which are pretty great). A fun free-spirited Nordic childhood adventure paired with some real life loss through the eyes of 9-year-olds and a lot of heart.
