This is a really fun mystery thriller for children. The story begins in a delightfully spooky Victorian hotel by the sea. Stella Montgomery is an eleven year old orphan who lives a dreary life at the hotel with her awful aunts. She gets embroiled in a mystery, and soon ends up on a twisty, exciting adventure. Stella proves an intrepid, clever and very likeable heroine. I really loved the charming and detailed illustrations scattered throughout the book. Overall this was a wonderfully spooky and captivating mystery, with some fantasy elements as well. Fans of a Series of Unfortunate Events might really enjoy this intriguing book.

Cute fantasy that feels like a Victorian British setting. Will appeal to fans of Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events.
