"It is a dark and stormy Puget Sound winter--until the arrival of Lioness Lazos. Even the weather takes notice when Lioness appears, as if out of nowhere, waiting tables in a diner. As though compelled, a complicated family brings the young woman into their lives. Energetic Joanna, academic Abe, and lovelorn Lily each fall under Lioness's spell, and she in turn awakens their long-hidden dreams and desires. As an impossibly beautiful spring leads into a perfect summer, Lioness's influence only grows. But lingering in her past is a dark secret--and summer days must pass".
"It was a typically unpleasant Puget Sound winter before the arrival of Lioness Lazos. An enigmatic young waitress with strange abilities, when the lovely Lioness comes to Gardner Island even the weather takes notice."--Goodreads.

Gradually increasing fantasy themes set in the Pac-NW. Evokes the lush, damp, earthy, gray shorelines of the Sound. A fresh and modern love quadrangle, fragile against the stark contrast of the eternal, and a completely immersing read.

This title will definitely appeal to fans of Beagle as well as Alice Hoffman and Robin McKinley. Beagle authentically captures the nuances of an adult couple's long established patterns in their relationship, as they come to grips with their mystical guest.

Contemporary Fantasy. Over the course of decades, retired history professor Abe Aronson and flight attendant Joanna Delvecchio have built a relationship and a lifestyle that work for them. Mostly. When Lioness Lazos arrives in Puget Sound, their comfortable, if dull, lives are changed forever. After they discover that the young woman has no home, they offer her a place to live. They don't realize that their generosity will have far-reaching consequences. Leisurely paced and bittersweet, Summerlong may appeal to fans of the author's A Fine and Private Place, as well as Patricia McKillip's Kingfisher, which similarly infuses myth into modern life.
