The novel starts out in a slow suspenseful manner but gradually winds into a series of unlikely domestic events ands unrealistic employment situations. The ending was inconclusive and no plot is ever completed to establish the fate of the husband, wife, or the other significant characters. The book reads like a psychological thriller that ran out of literary gas halfway through. I felt like I wasted my time reading the book after finishing the final chapter. I did enjoy the parrot's role in the story, however, which was the single redeeming factor of this read:)

After I'd read a few chapters from the wife's perspective, I lost interest in the book and never finished it.
