I haven't read this book and doubt if I will but a line from the description claims:
// General MacArthur, by contrast, was incredibly popular, as untouchable as any officer has ever been in America . . .\\
If one goes back and reads various soldiers correspondence you will find this an untrue statement, just as there were those who remembered that MacArthur was involved in the slaughter of over 100 men, women and children at the Bonus Marchers Village in Anacostia [but probably escaped any serious punishment as his uncle was then one of the richest men in America, a partner of JP Morgan]. MacArthur refused to believe the Japanese were massing to attack in the Philippines, just as he refused to believe the Chinese were massing to attack in Korea, an abysmal record, from beginning to end.
