Writing seems a bit stilted. The main character is ten, but she is constantly being told that she isn't a child anymore/similar sentiments and being exposed to life's harsh realities, such as domestic violence, but at the same time, no one tells her her mother is expecting, which seems pretty inconsistent.

The westward trail from the point of view of a ten-year-old girl and the women in the wagon train. Charming and heartwarming.

Nicely written historical fiction coming of age novel based on a true story. Filled with simple moments and small incremental revelations: not a page-turner. There is interesting material here about women's lives and marriages in the late 1800's.
