“Isabella, Lady Trent, narrates her astounding adventures from volume to volume, blending Victorian pastiche and alternate-world fantasy with a distinctly pulp sensibility…now is the time to get acquainted.” –NPR

Within the Sanctuary of Wings is the conclusion to Marie Brennan's thrilling Lady Trent Memoirs

After nearly five decades (and, indeed, the same number of volumes), one might think they were well-acquainted with the Lady Isabella Trent--dragon naturalist, scandalous explorer, and perhaps as infamous for her company and feats of daring as she is famous for her discoveries and additions to the scientific field.

And yet--after her initial adventure in the mountains of Vystrana, and her exploits in the depths of war-torn Eriga, to the high seas aboard The Basilisk, and then to the inhospitable deserts of Akhia--the Lady Trent has captivated hearts along with fierce minds. This concluding volume will finally reveal the truths behind her most notorious adventure--scaling the tallest peak in the world, buried behind the territory of Scirland's enemies--and what she discovered there, within the Sanctuary of Wings.

I'm really sad to see the end of this series because I've loved it the whole way through. It's fantasy, but it's set in an alternate universe Victorian society, and it's scientific and anthropological and archaeological ... so many things I love in one book. There are 5 books, all written in memoir style, and in each book Isabella gets closer to what is revealed in this final one, which is pretty amazing. I enjoyed the whole series. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I found it wrapped up too quickly in the end and I wish the author would have written and explained a bit more. I wish I could read more of Lady Trent but I'm also excited to read more from this author.
